About me

"Photography became my personal language — a quiet way to express what I feel inside and how I see the world around me."

My story

Hello, I'm Carlos Leal.

My name is Carlos José Leal, and I was born on February 2nd, 1953, in San Pedro de Macorís, a beautiful city in the Dominican Republic, known for its stunning sunsets. I now live in Santo Domingo, and I’m proud of my Dominican and Portuguese roots.

I’m a Sanitary Engineer, educated in the USSR, but photography has always been my true passion. When I was 13, I used to run with a small camera to capture sunsets at the Higuamo River. That’s when my love for photography really began.

Later, I took basic courses at Altos de Chavón and the Museum of Modern Art, but most of what I’ve learned comes from my own practice and curiosity. Photography became my way of expressing emotions and showing how I see the world.

I love travel photography, but I enjoy exploring many styles. I’ve been lucky to win several photography contests, including first place at the Punta Cana Carnival (2016) and awards from the National Botanical Garden and Juandoliando Magazine.

This website is a piece of my journey. I hope my photos help you see the beauty I see every day.
